Morning Kick Off

Yesterday I was at Port Vale for their U18 game vs Stockport U18. Its always nice to get these games, and has a nice twist at Port Vale as you change at the ground and then go around to the training pitch.
I started to get a bit concerned at 10.20 I only had one assistant and the club told me they had been unable to contact the assistant during the week, a few minutes later he walked in and had told the County he would be late due to leaving from work.
The way the game started It looked like Stockport were going to be unstoppable. Port Vale couldnt get the ball away from their own half and inevitably took the lead. This seemed to spring Port Vale in to life and the game evened up. During the first half Port Vale had a penalty claim, I had a blocked view as the area was packed and after a quick check with my assistant ......no penalty.
Going in at Half time Port Vale had pulled it back to 3-1. I had the chance to play some advantage which was nice and they came off. The skill of the players was impressive and they were happy to get on with the game and let if flow.
2nd half though was a bit more eventful with 2 penalty's awarded to Port Vale, the first for a trip (which they put over) and the 2nd (which they scored) for a shirt pull. I couldn't tell you who it was from Stockport that pulled the shirt, but I could see the white shirt pulled a good foot from the body! I ended up cautioning a player for dissent, I had spoken to him about 5 minutes before for dissent and unfortunately he hadnt took the hint.
The game was enjoyable to referee, there was less dissent than a normal supply game and while the mood of the Stockport players changed as the game went on, i can respect that as they had 2 penalty's against them and had gone from a winning position to losing, which i can understand.
One thing I dont like about these games though is getting back in the car and the results not being on! Also given the lack of Football on the Radio yesterday i had to listen to Radio 5 cover the England Rugby..........never mind that worked out right.
